TMC docs among honorees at PCMS event

The Pima County Medical Society will recognize physicians from throughout our community, including two tied to TMC, at its Stars on the Avenue events this evening.

Among the honorees:

·         Dr. C. Peter Crowe Jr. will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his teaching and surgical career. Crowe was the first pediatric surgeon in Tucson when he arrived in 1964 and practiced until 2002. He refused to retire until his replacement was working because he didn’t want to leave Tucson with one less pediatric surgeon. Dr. Crowe was chief of staff at TMC in 1986-87.

·         Dr. Eve Shapiro, a prominent Tucson pediatrician, will receive the Rose Marie Malone Service Award for her commitment to change through her work within medical political organizations. She was the chair of the successful 2000 initiative effort to raise Arizona Medicaid eligibility to 100 percent of the federal poverty level.

  1. Don and Loretta Sabourin , regarding Johnny Sabourin says:

I was wondering how Dr Crowe was doing, he performed many surgeries on my son in the mid 70’s. Actually saved his life, by performing a colostomy on him. Any news of Dr. Crowe Please tell him Thank You from the Sabourins of Tucson.

    • Sandra Bell says:

My daughter also received the gift of Dr. Crowe’s care in the early ’80’s (coincidentally a colostomy was part of her treatment!). I’ve wondered many times over the years about how he was doing and whether he stayed in Tucson – I’m so glad to hear he was recognized for his work and so grateful for what he did for us. My daughter is a healthy 33-year-old now with children of her own 🙂
