West Pavilion Topping Out Ceremony a Huge Success

The Topping Out Ceremony last week celebrating the completion of the steel framework of the new West Pavilion was a huge success. Over 200 people were in attendance, including Tucson Medical Center and Tucson Orthopaedic Institute executives, District 4 Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll, and representatives from Councilman Paul Cunnigham’s office, among others.

Attendees enjoyed beautiful weather, refreshments and the sound of live mariachi music. Before the beam was hoisted, the crowd heard comments about the new building, construction and the strategic partnership of TMC and TOI from Judy Rich, President and CEO of TMC; Richard Prevallet, VP of Facilities and Construction at TMC; Greg Waters, CEO of TOI; and Steve Hamline of JE Dunn Construction.

Despite the solemn observance of a tradition stretching back over 1,000 years, rather than the usual choice of sending a Christmas tree to ride the beam, TMC improvised with a saguaro cactus that will eventually be planted in the Founders’ Garden that will be created as part of the Grant Road entrance.
