Clothing Drive Collects Hundreds of Items

Tucson Medical Center just wrapped up a clothing drive to provide patients with one less thing to worry about when leaving the hospital.

At times, a patient’s clothes may be too soiled or damaged upon arriving at the hospital to go home with them.

A clothing drive, organized by the float pool unit-based council and concentrated in the adult inpatient units, show staff members not just willing to open their hearts – but their closets – to help patients.

The two-month clothing drive that ended last week collected hundreds of items for distribution to areas of the hospital that included the emergency room, Palo Verde Hospital and pediatrics.

The drive was so successful, that organizers even collected purses, said Breana Maynard, the assistant manager of patient care services.

The council plans a quarterly charity event, with a canned food drive next on tap.

“It was a lot of fun to work with co-workers to fill a community need and to participate in something so fulfilling with such enthusiastic people,” said council president Heidi Muller.

what a great idea! having just experienced this with my mother at another hospital, her clothes were too soiled to wear home, and she was discharged in hospital gowns. what a great gesture to be able to provide proper clothing for those times!
