New hospital for Green Valley under exploration

This announcement was released to the community Sept. 27, 2012:

TMC HealthCare, McDowell Enterprises explore development of new hospital for Green Valley

TUCSON – TMC HealthCare, through its subsidiary Saguaro Medical Holdings LLC, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Scottsdale-based McDowell Enterprises LLC to explore the development and operation of an acute-care hospital and office buildings in Green Valley, Ariz. The Green Valley Medical Center (GVMC) is designed and operated to yield high quality patient care and streamlined patient flow with architectural and operational efficiencies.

“We are pleased to be able to continue the due diligence process and obtain input from key stakeholders,” said Judy Rich, president and CEO, TMC HealthCare. “Green Valley has long been identified as medically underserved, with emergency services being nearly 30 miles away. TMC is committed to serving the residents of Green Valley with the same patient-focused health care that we are known for throughout the region.”

McDowell Enterprises CEO Jim McDowell said “We are thrilled to be in this process with TMC. This is one of those rare development opportunities that can truly improve the quality of life for the residents of Green Valley.”

GVMC’s 32-bed acute care hospital will provide emergency inpatient and outpatient medical care and is targeted to open in the first quarter 2014. Other features of the facility include:

  • ·         Full-service emergency department
  • ·         Cardiac catheterization lab
  • ·         Four operating rooms
  • ·         Two minor procedure rooms
  • ·         On-site radiological imaging labs
  • ·         26 inpatient private rooms
  • ·         Six-bed intensive care unit
  • ·         Medical office space for primary and specialty physicians
  • ·         Expansion capabilities to continue to serve the growing community

Tucson Medical Center would bring its operational experience including procedures, policies and quality measures to the project, said Rich. “Our operational expertise and investment would complement that of McDowell Enterprises, which has more than 35 years of experience developing specialized facilities including hospitals and medical offices.”

Green Valley currently lacks an acute-care hospital with residents traveling almost 30 miles to get to emergency and hospital services. This project will create jobs and be a positive economic-development effort for the community.
