Patriotic quilts needed to help veterans at TMC Hospice

A program that does so much for the people of Southern Arizona needs a little help itself these days.  TMC Hospice workers are asking quilters and quilting groups to consider donating patriotic quilts that will be presented to veterans who are receiving home care.  A group out of Washington donated a significant amount of patriotic quilts many months ago, but now just a few remain.

The red, white and blue quilts are presented during a ceremony in which veterans also receive a plaque thanking them for their service.  Hospice Director Mary Steele says these ceremonies are incredibly emotional.  “These families see their loved one once again as a strong person defending their country.  It helps these veterans open up about their service.  The family gets to hear stories they’ve never heard before, and therefore understand their loved one’s service better.  It helps the conversation, and it helps the family grieve.”

Quilts can be dropped off or mailed to Peppi’s house on the TMC campus. Employees ask that you be sure to include your name and address so that they can properly thank you.
