With Election Day (Nov. 6) just around the corner, it’s the season for voters to decide what changes to make – or not to make.
The American Hospital Association (www.aha.org) has compiled a guide called We Care We Vote to clarify the challenges and opportunities for voters, including those who work in or care about health care. The AHA is advocating for real long-term solutions to strengthen the health care system, not arbitrary cuts that undermine hospitals’ ability to care.
The AHA is prescribing preventive care for the upcoming election, including a list of CHANGES that should be AVOIDED:
- cuts to payments for evaluation and management services provided in outpatient department
- reductions to payments for graduate medical education
- additional across-the-board cuts to Medicare inpatient hospital rates through the use of coding adjustments
- restrictions on state provider assessments
- payment reductions to rural hospital programs, including critical access hospitals
- reductions in payments to hospitals for assistance to low-income Medicare beneficiaries (bad debt)
- burdensome requirements for supervision of hospital outpatient therapeutic services
To make your voice heard on these issues and more, VOTE on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
