TMC Hospice invites you to inspirational veterans conference

TMC Hospice is partnering with Carondelet Hospice & Palliative Care to host the Serving Those Who First Served Us workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tucson.

Those who care for veterans, health care professionals and the men and women who have honorably served our nation are invited for a day of education, spiritual outreach, and healing.  If you are a veteran, know a veteran, or care for a veteran, you will be inspired and educated by stories that will open your mind and heart to ways that you can enhance healing at the end of veterans’ lives.

The featured speaker is Deborah Grassman, the author of Peace at Last: Stories of Hope and Healing for Veterans and Their Families. She is a featured speaker at hospice and VA conferences throughout the United States and has published numerous articles on providing hospice care to veterans.  Deborah pioneered identifying the effects of past trauma on the quality of a person’s dying process, as well as ways to effectively respond to issues that surface at the end of life.  She will talk about ways that dying veterans and their families are affected by the military culture.

Other speakers include:

  • Cathi Starr, Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, Southern Region Manager
  • Dr. Michael Marks, Lead Psychologist at SAVAHS and director of the system’s post-traumatic stress disorder outpatient clinic and developer of the Supportive Education for Returning Veterans

Continuing education credits will be offered for nurses, social workers, fiduciaries, psychologists, nursing home administrators, and care home managers.  Click here for information about the learning objectives.
