Gluten Free Awareness Expo Nov. 17 offers fun, food, info at TMC

 

A Nov. 17 event at Tucson Medical Center will offer the community a variety of ways to learn about living gluten free, presented by the University of Arizona Gluten Free Club.

The Gluten Free Awareness Expo will be held at TMC’s Lifegain Park, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 – no charge to attend.  Lifegain Park is on the north side of the TMC campus, a short distance behind the new Orthopaedic and Surgical Tower.

The expo will include:

• Food offerings from GF restaurants & vendorsGluten Event

• GF recipe & cooking technique exchanges

• GF raffle games

• GF goody bags for all

• GF medical experts on site

“Upon entry to the event you will receive a goody bag filled with gluten free resources, snacks, coupons, and more,” said Emily Rich, president of the UA Gluten Free Club. “There will be booths giving away food, presenting gluten free resources, activities for kids, raffle prizes, live music, cooking demos, gluten free games… You don’t want to miss this!”

Attendees who bring food to donate to the Community Food Bank will be able to get a ticket for a raffle – or get raffle tickets by playing gluten free games. Activities for children include a petting zoo by Therapeutic Ranch for Animals and Kids (TRAK), and a chance to meet ‘Kids Can Cook’ personality Haile Thomas, 7th grade celebrity chef, with cooking demos and samples of a healthy gluten free recipe.

In addition, health care professionals and educators will be able to attend related seminars for continuing education credit.  on celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Dr. Lucinda Harris of Mayo Clinic will cover celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, and Nina Spitzer, educator, will present a session on celiac disease and school children.  Professionals interested in attending can visit gfawarenessexpo.org/speakers to register online.
