Heart Association names TMC a top-level Fit-Friendly Worksite

Employees at Tucson Medical Center have developed an aura of healthfulness around the hospital – and the American Heart Association has noticed.

????????????????????????????The AHA has designated TMC as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite, honoring TMC’s steps to create a culture of wellness.  The Gold level of recognition is reserved for employers who fulfill criteria such as offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work, and implementing a variety of physical and nutrition activities.

Among the hospital’s workforce health-oriented activities is the new Optimal Results Fitness and Wellness Center, known among TMC employees as the O.R. Gym.  The facility was repurposed out of old operating rooms that were vacated last spring when TMC opened its new $100 million Orthopaedic and Surgical Tower. The gym offers traditional exercise equipment and a state-of-the-art Fitness On Request system, plus classes in yoga, Zumba, core, spin and circuit for TMC employees and families.

In addition, TMC’s Wellness Department and Employee Wellness Committee have created a robust Live Well program to coordinate employee wellness initiatives. The TMC medical insurance coverage for employees is structured to reward healthy behaviors with credits toward potential reductions in insurance premiums.
