Know anyone turning 99? 100? 101? We’re seeking centenarians

Tucson Medical Center and the Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) have collaborated for the last quarter century to create the nation’s largest known annual party for those who have reached their 100th year of life.

Century PlantDo you know a centenarian? PCOA is collecting the names of Tucson-area residents who have reached age 99 or more so they can be invited to the 27th Annual Salute to Centenarians, to be held at TMC May 2.

Nationwide, the 2010 Census identified more than 53,000 people who have surpassed their 100th birthdays. In Tucson, the goal is to identify any centenarians living in this area so they can be invited to attend the salute May 2, if able. The local event offers a chance to celebrate Pima County’s living links to history, allowing the honorees to connect with local dignitaries and peers.IMG_0212

Contact the PCOA Centenarian Program with contact information for any centenarians we may have missed, 790-0504, or email salutetocentenarians@gmail.com – if possible, respond by April 4.
