TMC is sad to announce the death of David Howell, who worked at TMC for 50 years. Below is an obituary written by his wife, Kelly. Read more about David’s 50 years at TMC in this 2012 Spotlight on Employee Serivce.
David Milo Howell was born in Kennet, Missouri, on May 24, 1946. He was called to heaven on July 14, 2014.
Dave will be deeply missed by many people. He is survived by his wife, Kelly, two children, Starr and David, two grandchildren, and his beloved dogs Bandit and Sophie.
Dave had a strong sense of community and spent many years behind the scenes in politics, working for social justice. He attended and worked for local churches, sharing his faith and love of God. He often said that he wanted to be a lighthouse, showing others the way to Jesus.
During the 60’s he sang in the band “The Persuaders” at The King of Clubs. They won battle of the bands twice.
Dave raced stock cars, and later, was a frequent spectator at Tucson Raceway Park. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
Dave had one of the longest careers ever at Tucson Medical Center. During his 50 years of service, Dave touched many lives. He started out as a groundskeeper and worked his way up to manage the X-ray department. He had a way of putting people at ease, and his patients would often say that Dave became their friend. Among the staff, Dave had many friends, old and new, who meant a lot to him. He spoke fondly of their time together over the years.
Dave had a great sense of humor; his was laugh boisterous and contagious, and his corny jokes could turn any frown upside down. Well done Dave, well done.
