TMC Votes: I vote because….

Vote Judy RIchDid you know that only 30 percent of registered Pima County voters participated in the August primary election?

And did you know the outcome wasn’t even actually that good?

If you consider that only 62 percent of the population over the age of 18 is actually registered to vote, it turns out that those 147,000 ballots cast only represent 18.9 percent of residents here.

Put another way, only 1 of every 5 people in Pima County picked the candidates who will face off in the November election.

Regardless of political stripes or partisan position, Tucson Medical Center encourages you to vote.

The general election will feature candidates whose platforms vary widely and could have profound impacts on health care in this state, There are also ballot propositions that affect health and public health, including:

  • 303, which would allow a terminallyill patient to qualify for investigational drugs
  • 415, which would replace the County’s overcrowded and outdated animal shelter

We’ve asked our employees why they vote and we’ll share some of those with you over the next few days as we share an election tidbit that can help those wanting to become more engaged as we near the Nov. 4 general election.Vote Dennis McKinney
