Presidential message thanks those helping insurance applicants

An official ‘thank you’ has arrived for the TMC experts who help enroll community members in new health plans. A letter from the White House expresses President Obama’s gratitude and support for certified application counselors working to get affordable insurance for those who need it.

“By helping people understand their options within the Health Insurance Marketplace, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program,” President Obama wrote, “certified application counselors are providing security and peace of mind to those who need it most.”White House Letter

Maria Persons, TMC’s direction of Revenue Cycle and Health Information Management, shared the message with the Business Office staff who help get coverage for patients.“The letter sent to TMC signed by President Barack Obama is clearly an acknowledgement of the awesome work you do day in and day out in helping our community members enroll in health plans,” she told the staff. “I personally appreciate your dedication to not just our TMC patients, but to the community as a whole.  Without your assistance, many of the folks we see would struggle through the process of finding a health plan that would fit their needs.”

TMC Community Benefit division is a major part of community-wide efforts to aid those who need enrollment assistance, either renewing an existing plan or choosing a new one. The second year of the Affordable Care Act is getting underway, with open enrollment through Feb. 15. Enrollees are encouraged to return to the Marketplace by Dec. 15, to make sure they are covered starting Jan. 1.  During open enrollment, consumers can update their information to ensure that they will receive the right amount of financial assistance, and that they are still enrolled in the plan that best fits their needs.

Sylvia Brown, TMC community outreach specialist and a certified health insurance application counselor, is coordinating several upcoming enrollment events:

  • Saturday, Jan. 10, noon to 3 p.m.
