Tucson Medical Center surpasses goal in Ben’s Bells Challenge

IMG_0015Tucson Medical Center, one of 120 organizations that participated in the Ben’s Bells Kindness Challenge and the only local hospital, completed its Challenge with 1,240 acts of kindness.

TMC, challenged by the Tucson Children’s Museum to participate, pledged in March to record 1,000 acts of kindness by the end of April.

Celeste Goguen thanked TMC for its enthusiasm and participation in the first year of the Challenge, which spread to 29 cities, 11 states and even Australia.

“This has been incredibly exciting for us, so thank you for being part of it,” Goguen said. Ben’s Bells will present the final, Challenge-wide numbers of the Challenge in mid-May.

Heather Bachman, director of patient experience at TMC, said the Challenge underscores TMC’s values in caring for the community, including patients and employees. Even simple acts – such as voluntarily helping someone carry a heavy load, or unexpectedly bringing them flowers – made a difference. “It gets very busy, but it says a lot when we stop to take the time to do something kind for someone else.”IMG_0030

Bachman said she also appreciates how the Challenge inspired others. Representatives from the U.S. Border Patrol were in the audience when TMC held its kickoff celebration to accept the Challenge, and brought it back to their own organization. “You never know how it’s going to seed itself.”
