Tucson Medical Center welcomes new Senior Services Director

Maya LuriaTucson Medical Center is pleased to welcome Maya Luria as our new Director of Senior Services.

Luria most recently served as the community relations coordinator for Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, where her responsibilities included managing sponsorships and community reinvestment activities, as well as working closely with stakeholders and improving perceptions around behavioral health.

“Nationally and in Arizona, we’re seeing dramatic shifts in the population of older adults,” said Julia Strange, vice president of community benefit at Tucson Medical Center. “There are simply more of us who are aging, and we’re living longer, so there has never been such a dynamic time in serving the aging community.  Maya is a leader with deep experience in bringing people and resources together to focus efforts on a common aim.

“There are many needs in aging, whether we’re focused on increasing awareness of aging healthfully, managing chronic disease, reducing the stigma around aging or improving education about end-of-life needs. I have immense confidence in Maya’s ability to help Tucsonans build healthier futures.”

Longtime Tucsonans may know Luria best as one of the owners of Terra Cotta Restaurant and as event director of the Tucson Culinary Foundation, where she coordinated all aspects of the Tucson Culinary Festival for eight years. Those skills in managing communication materials and coordinating events will be invaluable at TMC for Seniors, which touched the lives of 4,000 people in 2014 with its wellness education programming and support groups.TMC for Seniors sm

“This is an exciting time to serve this community,” said Luria, a graduate of the University of Arizona. “I have always admired TMC’s commitment to seniors and the approach it takes in sharing evidence-based practices, but also supporting the role that seniors play in shaping their health futures. I look forward to fostering those priorities in this role.”
