TMC, Carriage House announce shared vision for health and wellness downtown and in the hospital

Tucson Medical Center and Janos Wilder’s Carriage House are pleased to announce a new partnership highlighting a shared vision for health and wellness downtown, as well as for TMC patients with a focus on improving their nutritional choices.

In this unique alliance, critically-acclaimed chef Janos will bring his flair and passion for food and cooking to Tucson Medical Center, adding his signature flair to meals served in the cafeteria.

Perhaps more importantly, patients will be able to access online short vignettes and full cooking classes by Janos in his test kitchen, featuring heart-healthy cooking options they can make at home.

TMC, meanwhile, which is well-known throughout the community for its focus on promoting wellness and preventing illness, will bring health awareness and opportunities to the Carriage House, 125 S. Arizona Ave. The partnership gives both entities the opportunity to reach the downtown market via a combination of wellness and healthy eating activities, which may include a morning yoga session with breakfast shakes or an occasional lunch-n-learn for downtown employees.

“Tucson Medical Center has long believed that good health extends beyond the four walls of the hospital, so that’s why we’re so excited about this new opportunity with Janos, to help people find their own path to wellness,” said Julia Strange, vice president of community benefit for Tucson Medical Center. “We’ve long promoted physical activity, from events like El Tour de Tucson to Meet Me at Maynards. This opportunity augments that work by bringing nutrition front-and-center as a foundation of good health.”

Janos, meanwhile, said TMC was a natural fit, as a nonprofit community hospital with a record of investing in the community. “My goal in opening the Carriage House was to build on the momentum of Downtown’s revival and really enliven the area south of Congress. I’m thrilled to have a partner with deep community roots and an ongoing commitment to this part of town.”
