On Sept. 23, pet therapy teams from Tucson Medical Center will be on site at The Core at La Encantada to share what it’s like to make a difference for patients and the staff who care for them.
Studies have shown that pet visits are more than merely a fun distraction – they can actually decrease blood pressure and reduce anxiety and stress.
If you’re interested in knowing more about your own pet’s potential, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona also will be on hand to walk you through the evaluation and certification process. A six week certification course will allow you to work with your pet in a therapeutic capacity at a variety of facilities, from hospitals to hospice centers, nursing homes, libraries, schools and special events.
TMC’s pet therapy team will present at 2 p.m., with the presentation on pet therapy certification starting at 3 p.m.
And if you are in the market for a pet, there will be some adoptable pets on site and information about how to foster a shelter pet.
