A four-year effort to enhance, expand and centralize women’s services is coming to fruition. This January, TMC for Women will open the Joel M. Childers, M.D., Women’s Center – a premier women’s health center in Southern Arizona.
Why it’s better
The Childers Women’s Center is designed to provide advanced women’s services in one convenient location. The comprehensive range of women’s inpatient care includes gynecology, obstetrics, gynecologic and breast oncology.
Centralized services contribute to convenience, and operational efficiency – meaning physicians, nurses and caregivers will have more time to attend to patients.
TMC for Women also made a considerable effort to ensure the center’s setting is comfortable, calming and positive.
The new Childers Women’s Center offers significant technological advancements, increased efficiency, strengthened care and an environment conducive to healing and recovery.
How it’s better
Surgical services include the most advanced robotic device available—the da Vinci Surgical System for minimally invasive procedures—for women’s gynecological procedures. Pre-op, post-op and surgical suites have been expanded to twice their former size to house leading-edge technology and equipment.
The Evaluation Center for expectant mothers will feature private rooms conveniently located near the center’s entrance. Two additional labor, delivery and recovery suites offer more room and greater privacy to better accommodate moms, babies and their families.
“As Southern Arizona’s nonprofit community hospital, Tucson Medical Center continues to provide women with high-quality, personalized care and the region’s most comprehensive health services.”
-Judy Rich, R.N., TMC president and chief executive officer
Primary features of the Childers Women’s Center include the accomplished physicians and nursing teams. The doctors and nurses have strong experience addressing standard and complex women’s health challenges.
Communication is key and the center’s staff meets frequently to support stronger knowledge and cooperation. Empathy and knowledge are number-one with the nursing staff, who are well educated on procedures and aftercare – passing on their knowledge to each patent.
Focusing women’s services in one area lifts the environment and has an important healing effect. TMC for Women recognizes that patients feel less uncomfortable and stressed in a waiting and recovery area where other patients are expecting similar services and procedures.
There is no doubt that patients feel more comfortable and at ease if their surroundings are aesthetically pleasing. From lighting, to artwork and color choices, a concerted effort was made to create a welcoming and healing environment at the Childers Women’s Center.
Making it happen
The Childers Women’s Center was made possible through financial support from the Southern Arizona community.
TMC and the TMC Foundation would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary support and remarkable generosity of the donors.
Making a difference
TMC has thoughtfully applied strong experience and resources to create a premier women’s center, fostering technologically advanced care in a peaceful, patient-centered atmosphere for and about women that promotes healing and wellness.
