TMC welcomes first patient at the new Rincon Health Campus

gary1For many years, 76-year-old Gary Beck made the weekly trek from his home near Colossal Cave to Tucson Medical Center’s midtown infusion center.

On Thursday, Beck became the first patient to be served at the 44,000-square-foot Rincon Health Campus, a brand-new facility at Houghton and Drexel roads serving the Southeast region with family care, imaging services, infusion services and specialty rotations.

Beck grew up down the street from TMC’s main campus – remembering when it was just a series of adobe buildings. Nostalgia aside, he’s looking forward to saving 30 minutes on his drive in each direction from the Wilmot satellite campus. He joked that as TMC’s pioneering patient at Rincon, he’ll always be able to point to the two-story building and say he was the first one served.

rinconexteriorTMC has owned the 22-acre parcel since 2005, completing significant infrastructure work on the parcel in recent years, including transportation and utility improvements.

Heather Jankowski, director of patient care services and specialty nursing, welcomed Beck with a potted succulent plant and a hug. “It’s been a long time coming and we’re so pleased to see this facility come to fruition – and to share this important occasion with you,” she said.

There is a great need throughout the community for infusion services, which can include blood transfusions, hydration and specialty injections, Jankowski said.

Primary care – including same-day appointments – are available at the site starting in January. Weekly on-site specialty services also will start rolling out to patients, including orthopaedics, physical therapy, dermatology and more.
