TMC and Canyon Ranch Institute will co-sponsor Screening of “Weight of the Nation: Children in Crisis”

On Oct. 4, Canyon Ranch Institute and Tucson Medical Center will co-sponsor the Tucson screening of an important new documentary developed by the Institute of Medicine and HBO in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health: “The Weight of the Nation: Children in Crisis.” The screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Fox Theatre.

The event will raise funds for Grow 2B Fit, a non-profit organization that provides information, support, and education to help families live healthier and happier lives. Specifically, the funds will go toward renovating the teaching kitchen at Tucson’s Apollo Middle School.

“As many people know, the obesity problem is reaching into the next generation. This screening will be informational and is also going to catalyze important funding for Apollo Middle School in Sunnyside School District,” explains Jennifer Cabe, Executive Director for Canyon Ranch Institute.

For ten years, Canyon Ranch Institute has collaborated with partners to educate, inspire, and empower people to prevent disease and embrace a life of wellness. Looking ahead to the next decade, they plan to expand their mission-driven programs. One CRI focus area is Southern Arizona.

The host of the event will be Tucson pediatrician, Dr. Jessica Schultz, who is also the founder of Grow 2B Fit. In addition to the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring nutrition and exercise experts. Tickets will be sold at the door.
